U.S Library Of Congress Preserves The Wailers

Officials at the US Library of Congress has selected the Wailers album “Burnin”, as part of  its 2007 collection of audio recordings to be preserved in its National Recording registry.

The album which was released in 1974, was a prelude to the groups internationally acclaimed album “Catch A Fire”, both of which have sold several million copies worldwide.

Memorable tracks featured on the album include “Get Up Stand Up”, Duppy Conqueror, and the ever popular “I shot The Sheriff”, which was covered in 1974 by American Folk Singer, Eric Clapton.

The Wailers Band was comprised of trench town musicians, whose most noted members included Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The group eventually signed with Island Records and within a decade became one of the world’s most popular music bands. In 2000, the band’s album “Exodus” was hailed as the album of the 21st century.

The group disbanded shortly before the death of its front man, Bob Marley who succumbed to cancer-related symptoms in 1983.
