Island Records Re-releases "Album Of The Century"

 

KINGSTON, Jamaica, :

Described by Time Magazine as “the album of the 20th century,” Bob Marley’s masterpiece EXODUS celebrates its 30th anniversary and will be commemorated across all media platforms with the release of an special edition CD and DVD/CD combo, available now, as well as the release of a new hardback book and a theatrical tour of cinema screenings of LIVE AT THE RAINBOW in key college markets and major cities across the country. 

Released on Friday 3rd June, 1977, Marley recorded the EXODUS album in exile. Having escaped an assassination attempt in Jamaica, he arrived in London during the first week of ‘77 and set to work recording his fifth studio album. The album catches Marley at the height of his most

Introspective, rebellious and creative periods. The release became the transforming album in Marley’s career, a recording of extraordinary creative maturity which resonated with audiences around the world. EXODUS, which stayed on the UK chart for 56 consecutive weeks—established

Marley as the Third World’s first superstar, a legacy that survives thirty years after the album’s release.

Published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, has been edited by the esteemed music commentator and critic Richard Williams and includes contributions from such writers as Lloyd Bradley, Robert Christgau, Neil Spencer and the celebrated poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. The book, which features over 200 images, is introduced by Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records.

The special edition144-page hardback book is lavishly illustrated with many previously unpublished pictures. 

EXODUS recently made history this year when a limited edition version of the album was released on USB Memory Stick by Bob Marley’s official artist website (http://www.bobmarley.com). The event marked the very first artist-specific album to be released using this groundbreaking format and Marley as the first major label catalog artist to have music available via this new technology format.
