The High Court in Britain has ruled that the estate of late great Ska pioneer Desmond Dekker should benefit his living legacy, his children whom are both adults.
The Jamaican-born reggae and ska singer aged 64 died from a heart attack at his home in Thornton Heath, in May of last year.
The estate, which is valued at around 300,000 British pounds, or roughly thirty five million Jamaican dollars, will be designated to a court appointed trustee to ensure the his daughter Desrene and son Desmond will benefit from the proceedings.
The Ska legend had left no will.
His last live appearance was at Leeds Metropolitan University on May 11, 2006 in England, where he is buried.
Desmond emerged in the early sixties with the Leslie Kong hit “Honour your father and mother”, and became a household name locally with the single “King Of Ska”. An ever evolving artiste dekker took the rocksteady era by the horns by emulating the “cool and deadly rudebwoy” appeal slinging hits such as “Rude boy train” and “sabotage”. But it was his roots inspired single “Isrealites” that placed Dekker on the world map. Charting the US and UK single chart simultaneously.
